Lazio
Among the volcanic hills of the Castelli Romani, Lazio preserves one of Italy’s oldest winemaking traditions. Here, the Genevitis project enhances a deeply rooted agricultural heritage, where landscape, community and wine production coexist in balance.
Vine culture has accompanied life in this territory for centuries and continues today through a cooperative supply chain that brings together historical experience and contemporary vision.
The Territory

The Castelli Romani area extends across the slopes of volcanic hills south of Rome. Mineral-rich soils, combined with hillside altitude and constant ventilation, create favourable conditions for vine cultivation.
Temperature variations between day and night favour gradual ripening and preserve freshness and aromatic expression in the grapes. In this context, balanced and recognisable wines are produced, expressing a territory where viticulture is an integral part of the landscape.
The proximity to the capital has historically made this area one of the main winegrowing districts in central Italy, maintaining over time a strong agricultural and community identity.
Partner
G o t t o d ’ O r o
Founded in 1945, Gotto d’Oro is a historic wine cooperative of the Castelli Romani and represents one of the symbolic names of Lazio viticulture.
The winery enhances local varieties such as Malvasia del Lazio, Trebbiano and Cesanese, which form the basis of historic denominations such as Frascati DOC and Roma DOC. Over time, it has combined tradition with a contemporary vision, developing lines dedicated both to expert consumers and to new wine enthusiasts.
Equalitas-certified, it promotes sustainable practices and circular economy projects, including the recovery and recycling of cork stoppers. Its commitment also extends to the territory through social initiatives and cultural activities that tell the winemaking history of the Castelli Romani.
Tradition

In Lazio, viticulture has always accompanied the life of local communities. Agricultural work, knowledge handed down over time and the daily relationship with the land build a shared heritage that is reflected in wine production.
The Genevitis project interprets this tradition by maintaining continuity between environment, people and cultivation. The wines thus become an expression of balance and recognisability, while preserving a strong connection with their area of origin.
Genevitis Project

Within the Genevitis project, Lazio’s winemaking identity takes shape in the Mitreo line. The name evokes the ancient places of worship dedicated to the god Mithras, underground spaces linked to rebirth and to the relationship between humankind and nature.
This symbolic reference represents rootedness in the land and continuity between past and present. The line tells the story of a territory where agricultural culture meets contemporary vision, enhancing traditional varieties and transforming them into recognisable and coherent wines.
Mitreo thus becomes a project that brings together community, landscape and production, transforming each bottle into an authentic expression of the Lazio territory.
