The Breath of the Mistral Wind in the Genevitis Project

In Sardinia, viticulture is born from the direct relationship between people and nature. Wind, sun and proximity to the sea shape the vineyards and define their character.

Within the Genevitis project, this land becomes a story: a place where agricultural tradition, community and landscape coexist in balance and are expressed through authentic and recognisable wines.

The Territory

T h e I s l a n d o f t h e W i n d

Sardinia is one of the oldest winegrowing lands in the Mediterranean. Its vineyards stretch across bright hills, coastal plains and sandy soils shaped by the sea wind.

The Mistral wind blows steadily across the island, naturally drying the grapes and contributing to their health, while encouraging regular ripening and defined aromatic profiles. The intense sun and the mineral richness of the soils complete a unique environment.

In this context, wines with a strong territorial identity are born: Cannonau, warm and Mediterranean, and Vermentino, fresh and maritime, complementary expressions of a landscape that brings together land and sea.

Partner

Founded in the Alghero area, Santa Maria La Palma is one of the most representative wine cooperatives in Sardinian viticulture. It manages over 700 hectares of vineyards cultivated with care and agricultural continuity.

The winery enhances native grape varieties such as Cannonau and Vermentino, interpreting them with a style that combines experience and technological innovation. Its pursuit of quality goes hand in hand with the protection of the territory and the enhancement of the work of its contributing members.

Alongside wine production, the cooperative promotes wine tourism activities and experimental projects such as the sparkling wine Akènta Sub, aged underwater in the depths of the Porto Conte Natural Park, an example of the bond between wine and the marine environment.

Philosophy

T h e W i n d a s a G u i d e

Maèntu was born from the idea that wine can tell the story of Sardinia through its natural elements. The name combines Maestrale and Èntu (“wind” in the Sardinian language), symbolising the energy that shapes the island.

The wind protects the vineyards, enhances their aromas and defines their character. It thus becomes the invisible thread that connects sea, hills and roots.

Production follows a philosophy that respects natural cycles: people accompany the vine without forcing it, allowing each bottle to express authenticity, balance and belonging to the territory.

Within the Genevitis project, Sardinia represents the Mediterranean identity of the supply chain. Here, viticulture preserves an ancestral character, linked to the rhythm of nature and to the continuity of agricultural communities.

Collaboration between regional cooperatives ensures consistent quality, long-term availability and the enhancement of local grape varieties.

Each territory preserves its own identity, contributing to a shared narrative based on tradition, work and wine culture.
